It is not enough to salve your conscience that you hire a skip to get rid of your unwanted waste; each of us should be responsible and ask what actually happens to the waste once we wave the skip goodbye as it goes down the road.
The UK is a small country and crowded; the truth is that it has been estimated that by 2010 there will simply not be any landfill space left. Time has run out and we have no option but to recycle every single item that can possibly be salvaged.
Most skip hire companies maintain an 80% recycle level and the majority have or are gearing up to bringing this level up to 90%. There are recycle centres around the company, some of them built by reputable skip hire companies. This step has been necessary as global awareness of the huge waste disposal problem the world face is being forced to the foreground.
Once the full skip reached the recycle plant it is then sorted into the different categories, this is necessary as for example glass is not recycles the same way as would bricks and stone be dealt with. Only once all the waste has been sorted and all possible items recycled will the residue be taken to a landfill.
This is the only way forward for the world; recycle to the maximum, minimize the carbon footprint we leave behind and ensure a future for all. Something to remember; if a skip company quotes you an unnatural low price, the likelihood of them disposing of the waste in an irresponsible manner is extremely high.
