If you are looking to dispose of waste in London, it is important to know what sorts of items are seen as hazardous, and those which are not.
Your best bet is to discuss your exact requirements with an experienced, specialist waste management or London skip hire company such as ourselves, at Simpson Skip Hire, but for those people or businesses that would rather establish this information for themselves before contacting skip hire suppliers, here is a little help:-
You firstly need to establish which category your waste falls under:
Everybody knows that some waste materials and liquids are harmful to human health, and/or to the environment. These products or bi-products may not have an immediate effect on humans or the environment but may only become harmful after a period of time.
This is what is technically described as hazardous waste.
If your business produces hazardous waste you have a ‘duty of care’ to make sure it is disposed of properly.
Waste that is considered to be hazardous under the hazardous waste regulations would be, for example, items such as lead acid batteries or fluorescent tubes.
Waste which is not considered to be hazardous would be, for example, items such as edible oil.
And finally:
There is also waste that may or may not be considered hazardous and therefore should be assessed to establish which category it falls under. This would include, for example, items such as ink or paint.
Some products do have a more detrimental effect than others, and local council departments and the Environment Agency will be able to offer more specific guidance on particular products, so it is worth having a chat with them.
Don’t forget however, if you are situated in or around the London and surrounding areas, most of this could be completed in a simple call to us as we run skip hire in London and are waste disposal specialists.
