You’ve hired a skip, now where do you put it?

In all honesty, if your skip has just arrived on the back of a lorry and you’re only just considering this question, there has clearly been a lack of planning somewhere along the line.

With skip hire in the London area, there is a strong likelihood you will be having the skip located on the highway. With this in mind, it is unlikely that the above scenario will have happened. It is a requirement when parking skips on the highway that you have a license from the local authority. Without this in place, your skip will not be delivered in the first place. Licenses are generally straightforward to obtain, but they will take 2 to 3 days to arrange.

Assuming you have either your license in place or off road space, the locating of the skip still requires consideration. Obviously the lorry that delivers the skip will need easy access which may preclude the most convenient location, from a waste disposal aspect, from use.

Locating your skip requires you to ensure you are not blocking neighbours’ access, or even your own. Ensure you do not block drains and also ensure that the skip is clearly visible when parked on the highway.

Any of these common do’s and don’ts around your skip hire needs can be discussed with our sales team at Simpsons Skip Hire before completing your skip hire request. We are experts in skip hire for the London area which enables us to offer pertinent advice on both common skip hire issues and specific London authority issues.
