Hiring a skip could save a tree

According to an article on the UK chapter of Friends of the Earth, wood fiber cannot be recycled more than five times in its life.  On top of this a fair percentage of wood fiber is lost in the pulping process.  The result is that new virgin wood fiber is needed globally each year to compensate for the loss, and this means cutting down more trees.  The obvious answer is to reduce the amount of newsprint we use each year, but even if we recycle each and every piece of paper worldwide, the loss in pulping alone calls for cutting down more trees.

A lot of old newspaper never make it to the recycling bins as they are used for a variety of household or office uses or they just end up in the landfill.

Some news printer used 100% recycled fibers, but they have to be very selective regarding the purity and for this reason they prefer to use old newspapers or they mix them with old magazines.

Other uses for recycled newsprint include facial tissues, paper napkins, egg cartons and toilet paper, but toilet paper still needs large amounts of virgin wood fiber and truly environmental friendly toilet paper uses either totally recycled wood fibers wood pulp from sustainable managed forests.

Recycling newsprint has the added benefit of eliminating the use of more logging trucks.  When paper is collected for recycling, this helps cut down carbon emissions.

So, hire that skip and get your unwanted newsprint into the recycling process and if you don’t have enough waste perhaps you could arrange a group with your neighbours and share the costs of the skip hire.
