A What Station?

A What Station?

Exactly what is a Waste Transfer Station? Whilst it is not the most sinister sounding location, there is definitely something Orwellian about this description. Whatever it may be that drives modern Britain’s need to rename many simple functions, jobs and practices with intricate and often seemingly meaningless names, the waste transfer station is an important tool in the modern drive to reduce reliance on landfill and simultaneously increase recycling.

As could be expected, sampling a range of opinions on recycling will establish that some people consider it to be essential for the survival of the planet whilst others will dismiss it as liberal extremism gone mad. Most of us would probably find our views somewhere between these two extremes.

In reality, whether you feel genuine passion for recycling or not, it is becoming commercially necessary to do so. Land available for landfill use is ever harder to find and quite simply, a lot of valuable materials are potentially wasted every year in landfill.

The Waste Transfer Station has a specific recycling role in relation to skip hire. One of the advantages of skip hire to the end user is that they do not need to invest time and effort segregating waste themselves. Once the skip is collected by the hire company, it will be taken to a waste transfer station where the segregation of waste is done by waste management operatives. Typically, anything up to 90% of waste is recycled. At Simpsons Skip Hire, we use our waste transfer stations to ensure we comply with modern expectations of waste management.
