Arranging a skip

There are a number of dos and don’ts when hiring a skip in London. Many of these are common sense simple steps to avoid causing a nuisance, but some are unlikely to occur for the typical person on the street for whom hiring a skip isn’t often an occurrence.

In order to have a successful skip hire experience, the two groups of people who will provide valuable assistance are the local council and the skip hire company itself.

Some of us may like to think of the council as a bureaucratic organisation. However, they do have a difficult balancing act in enabling people to carry out day-to-day activities such as using skips without major challenges whilst ensuring that such activities do not unreasonably cause difficulties or obstructions for others.

The local council is the organisation that provides skip permits for locating skips on the road. This does not mean that a skip can be placed anywhere on the road. Under normal circumstances, skips cannot be located within 15 yards of a junction. Also whilst it may seem obvious during a torrential rainstorm that you shouldn’t have parked your skip above a drain, it may not have been so obvious when it was delivered on a bright and sunny day. This knowledge should be the kind of expertise provided by the skip hire company.

At Simpsons Skip Hire, we have fantastic knowledge of all the legislation surrounding skip hire but we also possess the local knowledge of a business specialising in providing Londoners and London businesses with fantastic service.
