The Law, Skip Hire and You
As they say, ignorance of the law is no excuse for the guilty. This is never truer than when you plan to hire a skip whether in a small town or in the great city of London. There are strict laws governing the disposal of waste and environmentally friendly waste management.
It is your responsibility to educate yourself about these laws or you can end up with some unexpected and rather large bills at the end of the day. If you are unsure about anything, contact any of the many excellent skip hire companies who will advise you and answer all your questions.
The do’s and don’ts of responsible skip usage
You cannot simply have the skip dropped anywhere; you will have to get a permit if it is placed on any public ground such as a pavement or the road. It is very important that you know exactly what you can and cannot place into a skip. A skip hire company will assist you if possible in alternative ways to dispose of items such as hazardous waste, batteries, fridges and freezers, gas bottles, paints and solvents to name a few.
You cannot try to save a few pounds by overfilling the hired skip; you will be held responsible for any damages caused by items falling out of the overfull skip. Keep an eye on your skip for you do not want to end up getting into trouble with the law if someone illegally dumps their hazardous waste or other rubbish in your skip.
Lastly, check up on the credentials of the company before you hire a skip, for you will be held responsible and can be fined for hiring an unregistered skip hire company.
